Fuzzy birds!

Today we did another check of the house and discovered little bluebird babies! At this stage they are called "naked babies" because they have no feathers and are just bugged-eyed, fuzzy birds. They were moving, but not making any sounds yet. Three of the eggs have hatched so far, so we'll have to see what happens with the other two.

You can click on the photo to make it bigger to see the details better. It's really hard to make out in the picture, but the little nubbin' (I'm sure there's a technical term!) is actually a little foot and wing.

Throughout the day, we saw the dad bluebird going back and forth to the house. It looked like he was taking good care of them! The little ones will be in the house for about 3 weeks before flying away, but we won't be able to do as many checks now. Apparently, there is a danger of them hopping out of the house if you open it too often!
