This week marks the end of one era and the beginning of another.
Friday was my last day as the IT manager for the Department of Computer and Information Sciences. I spent six and a half very satisfying years at the helm there, truly some of the best years of my career to date. It's a place full of great people (and now great IT as well! :-) where I had a boss who gave me the resources and the freedom to implement my vision for how IT shops ought to be run.
I had lots of help along the way, including the best professional and student IT staff anyone could ask for.
The 2009-2010 UAB CIS IT Staff
Yesterday, I started as Director of Information Systems for UAB's new College of Arts and Sciences. It's a transition made easier by the fact that I am just across the street from my old department, and they are a member of the new College so I will still be working on their behalf. I'll be able to visit often - I already made it over there yesterday (free cake!)
I look forward to the challenge of building an integrated IT organization from what was four separate Schools, and my new work environment is full of nice people and even some familiar faces. Still, I'll always look back on my time in CIS and think of it as one of the best jobs I've worked, and I'm grateful to have had such a fantastic place to be these past few years.
