Early Thanksgiving

As fall settled on the neighborhood...

Loren and Sally made the trip to Alabama on Veteran's Day weekend to celebrate an early Thanksgiving. With the fall weather so nice, we took some time to explore the back yard.

We also went downtown to see the Veteran's Day parade. Birmingham has one of the largest Veteran's Day parades in the country, and it was only fitting that we attend, since Katie's job at the VA Hospital means she works with veterans every day. It was a cold and blustery day, but we're glad we went.

One of the highlights of the trip was when Sally presented Katie with an amazing graduation scrapbook that took months to complete and which captured Katie's seven year journey through graduate school. Sally did a wonderful job on the book!

The last order of business was Thanksgiving dinner. Katie and Sally spent some quality time in the kitchen putting together all sorts of yummy dishes.

Meanwhile, I did my best to carve the turkey breast as gracefully as possible, with Loren's expert eye supervising (and Katie looking a touch skeptical :-)

Everything turned out perfectly and we enjoyed a tasty Thanksgiving meal as their visit wound to a close.

It was very nice to have them here for an early Thanksgiving, and it was fun to get a head start on Thanksgiving over before everyone else!
