City Stages

Last weekend Fran, Laura, and I went to City Stages, an annual music festival held over the course of 3 days in downtown Birmingham. The set-up is quite cool- stages in the middle of the streets, downtown parks, and churches. They had some good acts this year, so we ventured out to see what it was all about.

Laura was most excited about seeing Def Leppard. It was quite the entertaining show- they played all their big hits and had some rockin' graphics on the screen behind them. I thought the crowd would be all people our age, but I was shocked to see teens singing along with their songs!!

Fran took a ton of pictures of the bands that we saw, but unfortunately, none of them really turned out. The country music at the festival was my personal favorite. Living in the south, I have discovered this genre of music and have been pleasantly surprised!! Mindy Smith and Mary Chapin Carpenter were so good.

For some of the shows, we didn't have the best view. Here is Laura's view for the Black Crowes. Nasty!

The rest of the time, we spent looking for the best food. Everything was of course deep fried. Here is Fran and Laura after enjoying some funnel cake. Fran was still quite pumped up from the Def Leppard show.

Interesting udder-style condiment dispenser!

I doubt that he was fired up over Def Leppard; didn't you just say that they were eating funnel cake?
